Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 10:44 a.m. when a small Cessna aircraft on final approach to the airport was struck mid-air by another small plane. Both planes went down and caught fire.

FORT MORGAN, Colo. — A tragic plane crash at the Fort Morgan Municipal Airport Friday morning left one person dead and three others injured, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the crash happened around 10:44 a.m. when a small Cessna aircraft on final approach to the airport was struck mid-air by another small plane. Both planes went down and caught fire.

The two people in the Cessna suffered only minor injuries and were treated and released at the scene. One person from the second plane was taken to a local hospital, while another was pronounced dead on scene by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Morgan Police, Colorado State Patrol, Fort Morgan Fire Department, and Morgan County Ambulance all responded to the crash. Authorities also thanked nearby residents who tried to help put out the fire before first responders arrived.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have been called in to investigate. Officials have not released the names of those involved as the investigation continues.
