DENVER, Colo. – Denver Police say a man riding a small stunt-style mini bike was arrested after allegedly assaulting an off-duty officer and leading police on a late-night pursuit through the downtown area.

According to the Denver Police Department, the incident began August 17, just after midnight, near 26th and Larimer Streets. An off-duty officer called for help after being attacked by the mini-bike rider.

Police say the suspect fled and was later spotted near 20th and Market Streets, where he allegedly threw rocks at officers and continued circling the downtown entertainment district, taunting police.

Undercover officers taking part in a downtown safety operation tracked the rider as he continued to disrupt the area. The mini bike was later found abandoned outside Denver city limits, but officers soon located the man hiding in nearby foliage.

The adult male suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer and on multiple active warrants.

Denver Police said the arrest was part of an ongoing effort to address crime and disruptive behavior in downtown Denver.
