EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — A helicopter working on the Derby Fire was involved in an incident Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Officials say the incident happened around 4:10 p.m. near a lake about 13 miles northwest of Eagle County Regional Airport. The pilot was rescued by another firefighting aircraft and flown back to the airport, where paramedics evaluated him. Authorities report the pilot only suffered minor bumps and bruises and did not require further medical care.
The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the incident, though it is unclear whether investigators will respond. A USDA Forest Service investigation team is already on its way to the site.
At this time, no further information has been released.
